This is an offset lithograph of Jasper Johns’s famous painting of a map of the United States. In Johns’s color-splashed map, painted in 1961, the conventions of cartography are bent. The usual distinctive boundaries of states become messy, areas vanish and state names are located on the map repeatedly. The map becomes a new object, and a mesmerizing one at that. This poster is from 2009. Dimensions: 27.5” x 38” paper size; 22.5” x 36” image size. Unsigned and not numbered.
Mint condition; limited quantity. Ships rolled. Comes with a certificate of authenticity.
Also ships framed in a tasteful black and silver 2-inch wood frame with plexiglass.
